Karen Collins is a freelance filmmaker, sound designer and entrepreneur in addition to her day job as the Canada Research Chair in Interactive Audio at the Games Institute, University of Waterloo. She has a PhD in music from the University of Liverpool and has published four books on video game sound, including Game Sound (MIT Press 2008) and Playing With Sound (MIT Press 2013).
Most recently Karen directed and produced the forthcoming feature-length documentary and book project, Beep: A Documentary History of Video Game Sound. The project interviewed nearly a hundred video game audio professionals, including voice directors and actors, tool designers, composers and sound designers.
Karen is also a co-developer of the free Unity engine plug-in Veemix, which integrates user-selected musical content into games in innovative ways.
